Performance enhancements for 2004 to 2007 Ford Power Strokes.

Stage 3 Off-Road

2004 Ford F-250s and F-350s were the first to feel tighter, modern emissions requirements, but instead of being cursed with a restrictive, weak engine, they received one of Ford's best diesels to date: the 6.0L Power Stroke. Despite having a much smaller displacement than its 7.3L predecessor, the new 6.0L saw an increase of nearly 90 horsepower and 60ft/lbs of torque over it's bigger, older Power Stroke brother. The single-turbo design of the 6.0L can easily receive an extra 100 to 150 horsepower and huge torque gains with a few basic performance modifications that are specifically designed to push your 2004 to 2007 Super Duty to its absolute limits. We here at Stage 3 Off-Road have a series of engine, exhaust and computer modifications for your truck, some of which take only minutes to install and get instant power and torque. The newer lineups of 6.4L and 6.7L engines have begun to overshadow the subtle 6.0L, but the right combination of aftermarket performance parts can keep the 2004 to 2007 Super Dutys competitive for years to come.
One of the most popular and cost-effective upgrades for the older Super Duty line are cold air intakes. The 6.0L Power Stroke actually injects more fuel than can adequately be burned, making it run slightly rich in its stock configuration. Cold air intakes (CAIs) give the engine a larger amount of cooler charge air, bringing its air/fuel ratio into a more powerful, explosive range. The average CAI uses a combination of heat shielding, insulated inlet tubing and high-volume filters to deliver their huge amounts of air. The majority of the CAI systems we carry at Stage 3 Off-Road can give increases of up to 10 to 15 horsepower and 20ft/lbs of torque. Each cold air intake is a direct, drop-in replacement for the factory air box and can usually be installed in less than an hour using modest hand tools.

Tons of horsepower and torque can be found by updating the exhaust system with premium aftermarket components. The most common exhaust system enhancement for Stage 3's customers are cat-back kits. Cat-back exhausts run from the factory catalytic converter back to the tips and replace the factory's restrictive crimped tubing and chambered mufflers with mandrel-bent piping and more efficient mufflers or muffler deletes to get rid of back pressure and deliver more power, torque, fuel economy and brutal sound to the Super Duty's 6.0L engine. While cat-backs only give small performance gains, a full turbo-back exhaust kit will give huge gains of up to 15 horsepower with equal amounts of torque and even more sound than a standard cat-back system. Turbo-backs, as their name implies, run from the engine's turbocharger back to the exhaust tips and use smooth, mandrel-bent curves and specialized mufflers like their cat-back counterparts. Some turbo-back kits, like this black MBRP kit retain the factory catalytic converters to keep your your truck 50-state emissions legal. A few of our turbo-back kits, such as this 5'' MBRP exhaust kit however, actually delete the catalytic converters for even more power. Exhaust kits that delete the converters may not meet emissions requirements in your area. Check your local emissions guidelines before ordering.

Even though the 6.0L was an overall improvement in design over the 7.3L, it came with an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system that actually lowered its lifespan and could lead to tons of problems. Off-road, racing or competition trucks can install an EGR delete kit from Sinister Performance that removes the system entirely. All EGR delete products are for off-road use only and may not meet local emissions requirements. Customers who want to keep their trucks street-legal can contact Stage 3 Off-Road directly, and we can get your a full BASIC SOLUTIONS kit from MKM and Sinister Performance that comes with upgraded EGR coolers and other performance equipment to meet your application. These 50-state legal kits keep your truck running cleaner and safer for a longer, healthier lifespan while.

The stock computer calibrations on your 2004 to 2007 Super Duty's Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is so conservative that even the safest, most basic tuning available on the aftermarket can add up to 40 horsepower in a matter of minutes. We here at Stage 3 Off-Road prefer H&S Performance's line of high-performance tuners that are both easy to use and immensely powerful. Each tuner comes preloaded with three different calibrations for the 6.0L Power Strokes including 40, 80 and 120 horsepower tunes that can drive your Super Duty's torque past the 1000ft/lb mark. Each tuner connects to your truck using the standard OBD-II port and the included cables. New tunes, updates and other software can be downloaded to almost any internet-connected PC and then transferred to your tuner using an included USB cord. All of H&S's tuners can adjust for EGR deletes, tire sizes and can even adjust your speed limiter settings. Customers with extensive engine upgrades (including aftermarket turbos, new blocks and other upgrades) may require custom tuning at their local dyno shop in order to prevent engine damage and to get the maximum performance possible out of their truck. Stage 3 Off-Road always recommends using a set of ARP Cylinder studs for any of our customers gunning for high-powered tuning and other huge horsepower modifications. These studs are manufactured from high-quality, grade 8 steel and can withstand the higher boost pressures that are a result of aggressive tuning to prevent any type of internal engine failures like blow gaskets or cracked cylinders. The studs come with all necessary washers and nuts for proper installation and function.

By utilizing all of Stage 3 Off-Road's upgrades, almost any 2004 to 2007 Super Duty with a 6.0L Power Stroke can reach huge horsepower and torque marks with only a few simple upgrades. Tuning, especially, works wonders on these trucks and provides them with the extra muscle needed for towing, competitions or just fun street driving (in a safe manner, of course). The old 6.0L Power Stroke may not have the huge horsepower ratings as its younger siblings, but the right modifications easily outshine them in their torque figures, keeping the 6.0L relevant even today. Best of all, many of upgrades won't break the bank and can be done for around $2000. After completing your performance mods, check out Stage 3's large supply of grilles, decals and other exterior upgrades for your 2004 to 2007 Super Duty truck.
